False Friends è il termine colloquiale in inglese per quelle parole che si presentano in modo familiare per l’ortografia e la pronuncia che ci inducono a pensare a un determinato significato, ma che in realtà vogliono dire tutt’altro.

Sono in una riunione attualmente. I am in a meeting at the moment.
The last Spielberg’s movie is terrific. L’ultimo film di Spielberg è fantastico.
Penso che i film dell’orrore siano terrificanti. I think horror movies are terrifying.
The current rumour is that she is resigning next week.
Il pettegolezzo del momento è che Paul darà le dimissioni settimana prossima
C’è troppo rumore qui, non riesco a studiare. There’s too much noise here, I can’t study.
Tom is a well educated young man. Tom è un giovane ben istruito.
